Looking for a cultural day trip on Long Island this season? The Nassau County Museum of Art is offering visitors four major exhibitions that blend art, history, photography, fashion, and baseball inside one of Nassau County’s most beautiful Gold Coast estates.
Now on view through July 12, 2026, these exhibitions transform the museum’s historic Saltzman Fine Art Mansion into an immersive celebration of American creativity and culture — making it a perfect addition to any Nassau County getaway or America250 itinerary.
Located on the former Frick family estate in Roslyn Harbor, the museum experience extends far beyond the galleries. Visitors can stroll sculpture gardens, wooded trails, formal landscapes, and a century-old pinetum across the museum’s 145-acre preserve.
Celebrate America250 Through Art
One of the season’s standout exhibitions, 250 Years of Art on Long Island, explores how Long Island helped shape the story of American art across generations. Created in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States, the exhibition features more than 120 works by 78 artists alongside decorative and historic objects displayed in immersive settings.
From Revolutionary-era portraiture and folk art to Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art, the exhibition traces the evolution of artistic expression across Long Island and New York. Visitors will encounter works connected to legendary artists including Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, Elaine de Kooning, Thomas Moran, and William Merritt Chase.
The exhibition also highlights Long Island’s lasting influence on contemporary art and design, including connections to iconic fashion designers Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan.
For visitors and locals exploring Nassau County during America250 celebrations, this exhibition offers a fascinating way to experience American history through art and culture.
Explore the Power of Portrait Photography
Photography lovers won’t want to miss Influence and Identity | Twentieth Century Portrait Photography from the Bank of America Collection, an exhibition examining how portrait photography shaped modern ideas of celebrity, fame, and influence.
The exhibition features 83 works by 28 renowned photographers, including Richard Avedon, Yousuf Karsh, Imogen Cunningham, Berenice Abbott, Gisèle Freund, Garry Winogrand, and Antony Armstrong-Jones (Lord Snowdon).
Displayed throughout the museum’s second-floor galleries, the exhibition explores how photographers helped define public identity across politics, Hollywood, fashion, and popular culture. From early photographic formats to iconic celebrity portraits, the collection offers visitors a compelling look at twentieth-century visual culture.
Discover the Bold Work of Andres Valencia
The museum is also presenting Profiles in Color: Andres Valencia, the first regional solo exhibition for the internationally recognized young artist. At just 15 years old, Valencia has gained international attention for his expressive Cubist-inspired portraits filled with vivid colors, fractured anatomy, and playful distortion.
Curated by Simon Watson in collaboration with the Perry J. Cohen Foundation, the exhibition showcases both paintings and sculptures that blend inspiration from Picasso, George Condo, and Francisco Goya with Valencia’s own contemporary artistic voice.
Step Into America’s Favorite Pastime
Sports fans can experience National Pastime: The Baseball Show, a unique exhibition honoring baseball’s enduring role in American culture. Featuring one of the most extensive privately held collections of authentic game-used memorabilia, the exhibition includes jerseys, helmets, bats, gloves, balls, awards, and artifacts from legendary players who helped define the modern game.
The exhibition also features baseball-themed artwork by renowned Abstract Expressionist Elaine de Kooning and Photorealist Glen Hansen, the museum’s current Artist-in-Residence. Visitors will also find tributes to New York’s beloved baseball teams, including the Mets, Yankees, and Brooklyn Dodgers.
