Greasy Eats: Our List of Best Pizza in Nassau County

Ask any person walking down the street and they’re sure to have a strong opinion on the best slice of pizza around. From thin crust to Neapolitan-style, there are countless iterations of the deliciously greasy handheld that’s become one of the most popular meal options money can buy. If you find yourself with a craving, use our guide to find the best pizza in Nassau County that will satisfy every slice aficionado’s craving.

Dario’s Pizza - West Hempstead

One of the newer pizza joints in the area, Dario’s Pizza has quickly garnered somewhat of a cult following thanks to its drool-worthy pizza pies. Offering both New York- and Roman-style pizzas, the newcomer serves up hot classics with premium ingredients. While there are many mouthwatering pizzas available to customers here, don’t miss out on the sandwiches, and salads that Dario’s also offers.

Eddie’s Pizza - New Hyde Park

This local joint is acclaimed for its famous “bar pizza,” a smaller 10”-inch pizza made with partial-skim mozzarella that pairs perfectly with a barside beer. In addition to this snackable pizza, Eddie’s, which has been a mainstay in town since the ‘30s, also serves regular-sized large pies, with an array of toppings available to customize.

Gino’s - Long Beach

This family business has withstood the test of time, opening up in 1962 and still going strong. The restaurant was originally opened by Italian-born Gino Branchinelli and is now run by his grandchildren. The long menu features many Italian classics, along with both round and square pizza options. Patrons can try out its hot honey or caprese pizzas, or opt for deep-dish Sicilian. However, if you’re more of a plain Jane, you can always stick with the popular traditional NY-style cheese pizza here.

Green Olive Kosher Pizza - New Hyde Park

Founded in 2021, Green Olive, founded under the supervision of Vaad Harabonim, set out to provide kosher offerings for its customers, bringing a twist to the classic pizza slice. Select from a large number of toppings or try out one of their speciality pies or slices – the I.C.U. pizza comes topped with falafel and sauteed onions – and this joint has more than just pizza on its menu. Options range from soups and pastas to paninis and Israeli specialities like shakshuka and hummus.

King Umberto - Elmont

Not to be confused with Umberto’s, King Umberto is another top-rated pizzeria in Nassau County. In fact, it made the list of top 101 pizzas in the United States in 2019 as ranked by Daily Meal. This pizzeria offers a diverse range of options, including gluten-free choices, whole wheat grandma slices, arrabbiata, and even a king of hearts pie which is topped with sundried tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and homemade artichoke hearts!

LaPiazza - Merrick

A staple in the area for over 30 years, LaPiazza offers an array of pizza styles and specialty items. Like many good Italian outposts, the restaurant serves up Neapolitan, Sicilian, Caprese, and grandma slices and pies. However, it also has other fun options like salad pizza, hot honey, and buffalo chicken.

Lia’s Pizzeria - Oceanside

For those looking for a little something extra on their pizza, Lia’s Pizzeria serves up countless specialty pies, with over-the-top toppings and combinations to get you out of your comfort zone. For example, customers can order the general tso’s or taco pie to combine multiple cuisines in one. In fact, the restaurant’s inventive pizza even earned it a Long Island Choice Award.

Pacific Street Pizza Co. - Greenvale

No strangers to the pizza trade, owners of the year-old Pacific Street Pizza Co. come from a long line of pizza slingers. Here, patrons can expect classic pies, and signature offerings like the Angry Attilio – a margherita pizza topped with pepperoni cups, spicy soppressata and Mike’s Hot Honey, or the Rocket salad pie, which comes topped with baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, pickled red onion, pecorino, and a lemon vinaigrette.

Pizzeria Undici - Merrick

This family-run pizzeria dishes up both round and square pies with tasty and tantalizing options for its customers to choose from. It’s hip to be square when ordering the Hot Honey Pepperoni Burrata Square Pie, which includes burrata, mozzarella, homemade tomato sauce, pepperoni, and Mike’s Hot Honey drizzled on top. Or, get a little spicy with Undici’s circular Broccoli Rabe & Sausage Pie, whose toppings should come as no surprise.

Riko’s Pizza - Levittown

What started in Connecticut as a great place for unique, thin-crust pizza now has a home in Nassau County. The restaurant has a small menu, consisting of only wings, pizza, salads, and select dessert options. Riko’s Hot Oil Pizza is infamous to those in the know, but their salad pizzas are no joke either.

Salvatore’s Coal Oven Pizzeria - Port Washington

Voted the number one pizza on Long Island by Newsday and one of the best local pizzas by Zagat, Salvatore’s could arguably offer the best pizza in Nassau County. The restaurant’s brick oven pizza is a favorite of many locals and out-of-towners alike and has been since it opened in 1996 (it was opened by the great nephews of the founders of NYC’s Patsy’s). Salvatore’s is known for serving only full-size pies and is a cash-only establishment. Thanks to its 800-degree oven, its pizzas bake quickly, and the pizzeria keeps things simple by offering margherita, white, and a few specialty pizza options.

Taglio Pizza - Mineola

If you have a hankering for Roman-style pizza, head to Taglio where they ferment their pizza dough for up to 72 hours, which helps to create a soft crust with a crisp exterior. These pizzas are traditionally served by the slice and here you can find large rectangular options, as well as classic triangle slices. Options range from the hearty Vodka Roni Pesto – which comes topped with pepperoni, vodka sauce, mozzarella, basil, pesto, and pecorino romano – to the leafy Prosciutto Arugula, featuring arugula, prosciutto, sun-dried tomatoes, pomodoro, stracciatella, a balsamic glaze, and pecorino romano.

Umberto’s - New Hyde Park

After immigrating from Naples, Italy, Umberto Corteo and his brother Joe worked hard to make their American dream come true. After working and saving up money, the brothers opened Umberto’s in 1965 in New Hyde Park and today, the restaurant has expanded to five locations throughout Long Island (and even ships nationwide on Goldbelly). The restaurant serves up an array of authentic Italian dishes, but the pizza is not to be missed – options range from Neapolitan to Sicilian and even grandma slices.
