NYC to Long Beach: Your Next Beach Trip is Just 50 mins Away

Whether you want to escape the NYC heat for a day or make a weekend of it, Long Beach, Long Island, is the perfect destination. With its expansive sandy shores, lively boardwalk culture, and numerous attractions, Long Beach offers a refreshing retreat from the city’s hustle, inviting visitors to relax and soak in the charm of this beachside community.

Getting There

Getting to Long Beach from NYC on summer weekends has never been easier. All summer long, you can take a luxury bus to Long Beach. Departing from Midtown Manhattan, the bus drops you off right at the beach. It’s equipped with modern amenities, and the ticket price comes with special offers, such as a complimentary beach pass ($15 value) and discounts on beach chairs and umbrella rentals from Beach Comfort. You can easily book your ticket here

Prefer the train? No problem. Getting to Long Beach via train is as easy as downloading the MTA app, and selecting a trip from Penn Station or Grand Central on Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to Long Beach. Once you arrive, the beach is a 15-minute walk or you can hop in an Uber or Taxi.

Beach Pass and Rentals

If going by Nassau County Tourism’s bus, a beach pass is included with your ticket purchase. If traveling to Long Beach by train, or another means of transportation,  you’ll have to purchase a beach pass. You can buy the pass on-site or, to avoid lines, you can buy your pass online here

For beach chairs and umbrellas, there’s no need to lug them with you, so travel light! Thanks to a local business, Beach Comfort, you can rent and reserve beach chairs and umbrellas in advance, and upon arrival, they’ll be set up and waiting for you on the beach. Beach Comfort offers multiple renting options, so whether you’re a solo traveler, or coming with a group, there’s a package for you. As an added bonus, with the purchase of your bus ticket, travelers will receive a special discount on your beach chair and umbrella rentals.

Boardwalk Bites

A day of beach strolls and ocean dips definitely calls for some tasty bites. Two quick and delicious spots you absolutely have to try: Marvel Frozen Dairy and Rip-Tides Long Beach

First up, Marvel! No beach trip is complete without a frozen treat, and Marvel Frozen Dairy offers plenty. Top picks include the vanilla fro-yo, chipwich ice cream cookie treats, shakes, and soft serve swirls. Flavors range from banana, peanut butter, sugar-free pistachio, and the classics—chocolate and vanilla. There are also vegan options such as mango pomegranate twist, chocolate mint, and birthday cake. And if you’re looking to indulge even further, customize your treat with a variety of dips, candies, sprinkles, sauces, and fruits.

For a savory snack or meal, head over to Rip-Tides. If you’re hitting the beach early, this beach bungalow has a variety of breakfast options, including bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, bagels, croissants, French toast, breakfast burritos, surf oats, and even breakfast nachos! If you’re looking for a cold beach refresher, grab one of their fresh juices, smoothies, or acai bowls.

For lunchtime, the menu is packed with delicious and easy beach eats. There’s an array of salads, sandwiches, fried seafood, and tacos. Favorites include the Ahi tuna salad and the shrimp tacos. And just a heads-up: Rip-Tides is cash only!

Brews Before You Go

As the sun sets and you say goodbye to your day at the beach,, make one last stop before heading back to the city: Bright Eyes Beer Co. Just a short walk from the train station, this pet- and family-friendly local brewery is a must-visit. The Hazy Pants Creamsicle IPA and the Rice Lager—are both delicious. Or take advantage of the friendly crowd and ask a Long Beach local for a recommendation.

Not Ready to Leave?

If a quick day trip doesn’t provide enough time, consider booking a stay at the Allegria Hotel. The Allegria Hotel, situated right on the beach in Long Beach, offers a luxurious coastal retreat perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. With its prime location, you can enjoy stunning ocean views, direct beach access, and proximity to the vibrant boardwalk. The hotel’s upscale amenities, including a rooftop pool, gourmet dining, and stylish accommodations, make it an ideal destination for both a serene getaway and a lively seaside adventure.

Long Island boasts some of the best beaches from NYC. While the Hamptons are a popular choice, Long Beach is closer, equally stunning, and now more accessible than ever.
