Tiger Woods to Design New Golf Course on Nassau County’s Gold Coast

Long Island’s legendary golf scene is getting another big name. Tiger Woods is bringing his course design expertise to Nassau County, with plans to transform the former Tam O’Shanter Country Club in Brookville into a new private golf destination.

The project, a collaboration between Woods’ design firm, TGR Design, and private golf company The Armchair Collective, will introduce a redesigned 18-hole course to Long Island’s North Shore. And for a region already known for its celebrated golf courses and championship history, it’s an exciting new chapter.

A Fresh Start for a Historic Brookville Golf Course

Located in the heart of Nassau County’s Gold Coast, Tam O’Shanter Country Club has a history dating back more than 60 years.

The course originally opened in 1962 and underwent renovations in 1968 and 1999. After years of uncertainty surrounding the property’s future, the site is now preparing for a transformation.

Plans call for a redesigned private 18-hole golf course, along with new practice facilities, a golf performance center and a clubhouse. Together, these additions aim to create a new golf experience while building on the area’s longstanding connection to the sport.

Site preparation and demolition are already underway. Golf course construction is planned to begin in 2027. The new club’s name and course renderings are also expected to be revealed next year.

Tiger Woods Returns to Familiar Long Island Territory

For Tiger Woods, Long Island is more than just another destination on the golf map.

In 2002, Woods won the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, one of the most memorable moments in the course’s championship history. That victory helped strengthen the connection between one of golf’s greatest players and Nassau County’s celebrated golf landscape.

Now, Woods is returning in a different role, bringing his perspective as a champion golfer and course designer to the North Shore.

In announcing the project, Woods expressed his enthusiasm for contributing to Long Island’s golf architecture tradition, highlighting the region’s rich history and his memories of competing at Bethpage.

It’s a connection that makes the Brookville project especially noteworthy. More than two decades after his U.S. Open victory, Woods is helping shape a new chapter of golf on Long Island.

A New Addition to Long Island’s Golf Legacy

Nassau County has long been a destination for golf enthusiasts, with courses that range from historic private clubs to renowned public facilities.

The North Shore’s Gold Coast has its own distinctive golf heritage, shaped by the area’s historic estates, scenic landscapes and country club traditions. The redevelopment of the former Tam O’Shanter property will add another dimension to that legacy.

Brookville Mayor Dan Serota has welcomed the project, recognizing the opportunity to bring Woods’ design expertise to a community with deep ties to the sport.

Although the new course will be private, its development is another example of the attention Nassau County continues to attract within the golf world.

Discover Golf in Nassau County

While the new Brookville course takes shape, there’s no shortage of opportunities to experience golf across Nassau County.

Bethpage State Park remains one of Nassau County’s most iconic golf destinations, offering five public courses, including the world-famous Black Course where Woods captured his 2002 U.S. Open title.

Beyond Bethpage, golfers can explore public courses and driving ranges throughout Nassau County, whether they’re planning a full round or simply looking to improve their swing.

With its championship history, established golf traditions and exciting new developments, Nassau County continues to make its mark on the game.

And with Tiger Woods bringing his design vision to Brookville, Nassau County’s golf story is far from finished.
